"I had a great experience. The mentees are very inspiring and a joy to be around." ~ Emerging Leaders Program Mentor, Spring 2012
Have you ever thought of becoming a mentor for a Latino high school student? Now is the time! Join the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) and provide guidance and advice to a Latino high school student. Mentor applications are due on Thursday, July 2. Applications can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/ ELPONE. All mentor applicants must undergo a background check.
Edu-Futuro's Emerging Leaders Program is a leadership development and college preparation program that began in the fall of 2006 and has since served more than 300 Latino youth from Arlington and surrounding communities. The summer session will be from July 7 through August 11, 2012 and will consist of 11 meetings (Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to
12:30pm). Mentors are expected to attend all Saturday workshops and are encouraged to participate as much as possible in the month-long session. We will meet at the Clarendon Education Center located at 2801 Clarendon Blvd. Arlington, VA (right by the Clarendon metro!)
Mentors are a vital part of the Emerging Leaders Program. They guide and inspire Latino youth to go to college, engage in community service, and to become leaders in their communities. In the program, mentors help students develop their skills in public speaking and communications, as well as support students through the college preparation process. This includes assisting students as they apply for an Emerging Leaders scholarship and accompanying students in our program's college field trip.
