2012 Arlington County Fair: That's a Wrap!
Early estimates suggest about the same number of people attended this year as last, largely due to weather, organizers say.
The 2012 Arlington County Fair wrapped up Sunday after hosting thousands of people from Fredericksburg to Annapolis, Md., and seemingly everywhere in between.
Some left a few pounds heavier — or a few dollars lighter. Children left excited and parents left weary. And plenty of people left with memories.
"Today was just a perfect fair day," fair Chairwoman Tiffany Kudravetz said Sunday evening as the indoors vendors began breaking down their booths.
Preliminary estimates indicate about 47,000 people attended the fair this year — about the same as last year. The weather played a role, as Friday night was lighter than expected. Saturday saw an uptick, though, Kudravetz said.
Outdoor sports and entertainment seemed to be popular, organizers said.
"One of the things that's been really great has been the focus on local Arlington interests," fair Vice Chairwoman Amy Doane said, from local acts perfuming indoors and out to the environmentally conscience "Live Green, Learn Green" theme.
"We want to thank for the community for their support," Kudravetz said.
The next Arlington County Fair is Aug. 7 to 11, 2013.
