Arlington Celebrates Opening of Henry Wright Park on Wednesday

County paid $14.8 million to acquire the park, the centerpiece of the redeveloped Buckingham Commons Village I.

Henry Wright Park, the 2.3-acre centerpiece to the redeveloped Buckingham Commons Village I, has opened, and Arlington County officials will celebrate the occasion with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and children's activities this week.

The celebration is 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the park, 4350 4th St. N. Children's activities include a moon bounce and face painting.

The park is named for Henry Wright, the chief architect of the historic Buckingham Commons Village I apartments. Arlington County paid $14.8 million to acquire the park, which the board approved five years ago.

The oval park features a fenced playground designed for children age 2 to 12, a water fountain, picnic and game tables and grassy fields.

It is surrounded by 506 apartments, 100 of which are obligated to remain affordable for low- to moderate-income families through negotiations with Arlington County.
