Arlington Fire Marshal to Confiscate, Cite Illegal Fireworks on Fourth

County regulations prohibit fireworks that shoot higher than 12 feet.

The Arlington County Fire Marshal's Office will be on the lookout for illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Arlington County has a long list of approved fireworks. Generally, those that shoot higher than 12 feet into the air are illegal.

Fire officials will confiscate any illegal fireworks they find on the Fourth and issue citations, said Arlington County Fire Department Capt. Gregg Karl.

Generally, residents should be OK if they buy fireworks from vendors inside Arlington County, Karl said. Those stands have been inspected and carry only legal fireworks, he said.

Despite the recent storm, residents should celebrate carefully, Karl said.

"Remember, it has been very warm and dry," he said. "They'll need to be careful — wet the area down if they do them in the grass, and not do them in the street."
