Boys & Girls Clubs Gets AtheleTECH at Pentagon City Mall
Washington Wizards' Chris Singleton hosts three-hour event Saturday.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is bringing a three-hour workshop to the Pentagon City Mall on Saturday that's designed to help young people hone their tech skills and have fun doing it.
AtheleTECH, a Microsoft program, will be hosted by the Washington Wizards' Chris Singleton. It's designed to combine athletics and technology to promote digital literacy and combat "summer learning loss," according to a news release.
With the presidential election fast approaching, Saturday's event will include a PowerPoint workshop called, "If I Were President," which will allow participants to become familiar with civic and academic responsibilities, the release states. Boys & Girls Clubs members will round out the afternoon with Xbox Kinect basketball.
"The combination of sports and technology has become a huge hit amongst our members," Eric Liley, the group's vice president of marketing and communications, said in a statement. "Microsoft and Chris are no strangers to giving-back, and our members are sure to walk away with new skill sets and we thank both of them for their generosity”
The workshop is noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the new Microsoft Store in the Fashion Centre at the Pentagon City Mall.
