Washington Capitals Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Nemish teaches a child to skate during Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s holiday party for families adopted through the organization’s Family-to-Family initiative, which provides holiday cheer to local underserved, deserving families.

The Washington Capitals, Wizards and Mystics collaborated to spend $25,000 to buy gifts for nearly 100 needy adults and children in their annual Family-to-Family holiday party.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, the umbrella charity for the sports teams, organized the holiday party at Arlington’s Kettler Capitals Iceplex earlier this month. The party featured an appearance by team mascots and holiday music.

The 21 families who benefitted were given toys, educational materials and clothing, among other gifts, according to a news release. The families were selected after being nominated by local schools and nonprofit organizations.
