The Ballston farmers market is offering new vendors, live music and food sampling this season.
The vendors were chosen by Fresh Farm Markets, which promotes local food in the Chesapeake Bay region. All of their vendors sell only locally grown products.
"You want to have the right product mix — one conventional grower, one organic, bread, cheese, some specialty items," said Juliet Glass of the Fresh Farm Market.
The market currently has anywhere from 10 to 15 vendors each week. Chef Tracy O'Grady from the nearby Willow Restaurant cooks free samples for visitors using much of the ingredients sold by local vendors.
"We do this to support the market and the farmers," O'Grady said. "We are all trying to get people to buy closer to home and support the community."
The market is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays until Oct. 25 at Wellburn Park at the intersection of North Taylor and Stuart streets.
Live music is often featured.
