The Ballston Business Improvement District (BID) has held two events this month celebrating new Capital Bikeshare stations in Ballston.
The first celebration was May 7 at North Stuart Street and 9th Street North, in front of Welburn Square across from the Ballston Metro Station.
Tim Kelley, BikeArlington marketing manager, was on hand for the May 7 event. He played the vuvuzela...
...managed the balloons...
...and pitched passersby on Capital Bikeshare.
Bike Arlington's Tim Kelley and Ballston Business Improvement DIstrict CEO Tina Leone celebrated the new Capital Bikeshare station across from the Ballston Metro on May 7.

The Ballston Business Improvement District was out bright and early Friday to celebrate a new Capital Bikeshare station and promote Bike to Work Day.

The BID, as it is called, planted itself in front of Freshbikes, 3924 Wilson Blvd., giving away aluminum water bottles and bicycle-friendly water bags. People signed up for a raffle to win one of two iPods or autographed Washington Capitals gear — including a jersey signed by the 2011-12 team, a puck signed by Mike Green and a hockey stick signed by Alex Ovechkin. Winners will be announced Sunday at the Taste of Arlington.

Arlington County Board Vice Chairman Walter Tejada dropped by to join Ballston Business Improvement District CEO Tina Leone for Friday's event.

Leone was also out earlier this month. On May 7, she and BikeArlington's Tim Kelley brought balloons, brochures and a vuvuzela to the recently installed Capital Bikeshare station across from the Ballston Metro.

That station is in front of Welburn Square, at North Stuart and 9th Street North.
