Police Search for Man Accused of Indecent Exposure Around Children

Spokesman: Man sat outside restaurant on North Fillmore Street watching children over weekend.

The Arlington County Police Department is looking for a man accused of inappropriately touching himself while watching children over the weekend in downtown Clarendon.

At about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, employees at a restaurant in the 1000 block of North Fillmore Street told police they saw a man sitting on a sidewalk between two parked cars with a newspaper over his lap, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The employees said they saw him inappropriately touching himself while watching several young children in the restaurant's patio area, Sternbeck said.

The employees told police they asked him to leave, and he reportedly did so without incident.

Sternbeck would not name the restaurant where this was reported.

Investigators are looking for a white man, approximately 60 years old, with medium-length gray hair, according to information police released Monday.

He was wearing a dark-colored hat, black shirt and navy shorts at the time of the incident.

I saw two women walking around for an hour at Taste of Arlington yesterday groping and fondling each other in front of everyone, including dozens of police officers. I also saw a woman pull down another woman's halter top, exposing her breasts, at the same event. Everyone thought that was funny.

Clarendon Patch ignores female same-sex couples groping each other in Clarendon. Have never observed male same-sex couples in Clarendon engaged in the same activities.

I've never seen a crime report that included instances of inappropriate same-sex behavior for either gender. If I've missed one, please post the link. I've said it before: I'm at the mercy of what police will release. In Virginia, state law works against the press (and the people they serve) by allowing police agencies to withhold a ton of criminal information.

Um ... This is about kids and very serious. The article isn't talking about two grown ups acting stupid or inappropriatly making someone being uncomfortable or disgusted. This is about a grown man looking at kids in a sexual way ... that type of activity leads to abduction. Please don't belittle this issue.
