Today: South Arlington Voters Head to Polls for Special Election
Voters in five Arlington County precincts to help pick delegate state's 45th House District.
South Arlington voters will join their counterparts in Alexandria and part of Fairfax County on Tuesday in the special election to fill the unexpired term of former state Del. David Englin.
Englin, a Democrat, admitted to an extramarital affair in April and subsequently resigned from his position effective Aug. 31.
Today, voters will choose someone to fill the vacant seat among Democrat Rob Krupicka, Republican Tim McGhee and Libertarian Justin Malkin.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
The following Arlington County precincts are affected by this race:
- Aurora Hills (polls at Linden Resources)
- Fairlington (polls at Fairlington Center)
- Abingdon (polls at Abingdon School)
- Oakridge (polls at Oakridge School)
- Shirlington (polls at Park Operations Building)

Despite having a general election already scheduled next month — and today being the first day of school for many area public school students — Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell chose today for voters in the Democrat-heavy 45th House District to go to the polls.
Across the district, multiple public schools serve as voting sites. An Alexandria City Public Schools spokeswoman said schools have been working with election officials "to coordinate efforts and are ready to accommodate voters on Tuesday."
