Tonight: Whitlow's on Wilson Hosts Sandy Hook Fundraiser

Organizers were students at Virginia Tech during 2007 shooting.

Whitlow's on Wilson will host a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday for the victims of the Newton, Conn. school shooting. The event was organized by a local group of Virginia Tech alumni.

"I think a lot of people share the sentiment of, 'What can you do?' and, 'How can I help?' " Whitlow's manager Jon Williams said. "I think everybody's kind of lost. What can I do? This is something."

The group will be selling wristbands at the door that will be good for a number of drink specials, including select pitchers, drafts and shooters.

A table will be set up for patrons to create cards to the community and victims, which will be bulk mailed to Newtown.

"My fellow organizers and I were all students at Virginia Tech during the 2007 shooting at our school and, personally, I felt like the cards and letters from well-wishers meant more than almost anything else," organizer Adrienne Ward wrote on the event's Facebook page.

All proceeds will benefit the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, created through a partnership between the United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Savings Bank.

Individual donations can be mailed to:
