Would 14 Degrees Keep You From Running?

It was only 14 degrees when I left my apartment this morning but that didn't deter me from my weekly Team in Training run!

This is my first effort as a Team in Training runner. With the National Chapter, I have joined an amazing group of people dedicated to finding a cure for leukemia and other blood cancers. And today was no different.

With two pairs of pants, six shirts, gloves, a hat and a scarf to boot, I joined the ranks of about 15 runners (ahem, crazy people) at 7:45 a.m. to run six miles through Meadowbrook Park in MD. It was a beautiful and clear route but frigid!
I could barely feel my fingers and toes for the first couple miles but great runners, good friends and a sunny day kept us on track. By the run's end, icicles were hanging from my eyelashes and sweat was freezing on my nose, but I felt great - all because of what this training means.

Since its beginning in 1988, more than 600,000 participants have helped TNT and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) raise more than $1.4 billion for therapies that are saving lives. The LLS is committed to finding a cure and this year is my year to do more in 2014. A resolution to help others, fight the battle against cancer and raise money along the way for live-saving treatments and, hopefully, a cure.

The TNT says "Someday is Today," and that passion is felt every week with the runners, coaches, mentors and LLS staff dedicated to the mission. We all come for our own reasons, many of us with friends or family members affected by blood cancers. Together we are making a difference, and you can join us in that effort!
As a team, we have raised more than $60,000 so far and personally I'm up to about $800. If you or anyone you know are able or willing to contribute to this cause, please visit my fundraising page to donate. Every dollar helps!

I'll be training through March in preparation for the D.C. Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon. If you can't donate financially, please consider in-kind donations or joining our team.

Together we can save lives!
