Fair in Full Swing, the Crusade Against Bottled Water, Chicken Out of Fairlington and More

Five things in and around Arlington County.

The Arlington County Fair is now open: Go. Ride. Eat. Take pictures. Make memories. Here's a few we captured from opening night.

Say No to Bottled H20: Speaking of the fair, Arlington County Board Vice Chairman Jay Fisette's personal crusade against single-use plastic water bottles is in full force. The grassroots group he formed has gotten 555 Arlingtonians to sign their pledge — and are looking to make it 1,000 by the end of this weekend.

Chicken Out of Fairlington: For folks who walk across the street to shop in Alexandria, there's been more changes at the Bradlee Shopping Center: Chicken Out has closed and will be replaced by a Zöes Kitchen.

Rock Out: ...with indie rock, punk rock, dreamy shoe gazers and other up-and-coming bands at the long-running and free Fort Reno Park concerts. The series wraps up for the summer on Thursday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The park is located at Chesapeake Street and Nebraska Avenue in Northwest DC.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Trying to find things for the kiddos to do on a rainy day? Try a paint your own pottery shop like Paint This! (1013 King Street in Old Town Alexandria), All Fired Up (3413 Connecticut Ave. NW in Washington, D.C.), Paint Your Own Pottery (10417 Main St., Fairfax) and Clay Café Chantilly (13894 Metro Tech D, Chantilly). It's not just for kids, either!
