Arlington Animal Control Reports: Bat found in Colonial Village, Stray Cockatiel in Lyon Park

The latest animal control reports from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

According to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington website: Animal Control officers are charged with the enforcement of all state and local laws regarding the welfare, care and control of animals. While such officers have the authority to issue citations, their primary focus is working with residents to help them provide better care. To report an emergency at any time, call 703-931-9241.

Sunday, July 28, 4500 block of Arlington Boulevard: The management from an area condominium complex found a dog tied to a lamp post on their property and took him inside to the front desk. An officer arrived to pick up the animal at the same time the owner returned to retrieve the dog.

Sunday, July 28, 1800 block of North Key Boulevard: A bat was found on the ground outside of a building. There were no apparent injuries but the bat could not fly. The bat was transported to a rehabilitation specialist for care and observation and possibly future release.

Sunday, July 28, 2700 block of North Pershing Drive: A resident called stating they had a stray cockatiel in their backyard. The bird was picked up by an officer and held for a stray period. It is now available for adoption.

Sunday, Aug. 4, 1400 block of South Edgewood Street:  A resident called stating they had found a stray kitten. The kitten was transported to the shelter where it was returned to the owner.
