Arlington Partially Activates Emergency Ops Center, Braces for Potentially Damaging Storm

Several events have been canceled.

Arlington County has partially activated its Emergency Operations Center in advance of this afternoon's storm, .

That means so far that only emergency support functions deemed critical have been activated, according to county spokeswoman Ingrid Vaicius.

Arlington County is under a thunderstorm and flash flooding watch through this evening. Fairfax County is already under a tornado warning and that weather could move eastward into Arlington County during the evening commute.

The Arlington County Department of Environmental Services has asked residents to secure trash and recycling bins in advance of the storm.

Several events have been canceled, including a celebration at Nauck Park, which had been slated to reopen following renovations.
