Honoring Veterans: 'Because of Them, We Can Live in Peace' [Photos]

American Legion Posts 139, 194 and 85, along with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3150 held their traditional wreath-laying ceremony Monday at the Clarendon War Memorial in Arlington.

Local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts held a wreath-laying ceremony Monday at the Clarendon War Memorial to commemorate Veterans Day.

The groups traditionally hold such ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This year, though, they also dedicated a temporary plaque that bears the names of six Arlington men who died in Iraq or Afghanistan.

"Again our nation has assembled to honor its veterans," American Legion Post 139 Cmdr. Charlie Viars said as the ceremony closed. "Because of them, we are free from tyranny. Because of them, we can live in peace."
