For the first time, Clarendon Day hosted the DC Chili Cookoff this weekend.
Teams of professional competitors and amateurs, small businesses or just groups of friends, lined Highland Street just south of the Clarendon Metro mixing up batches of chili for the event.
Samples were handed out for donations to charity or in hopes of positive word of mouth — the team with the most donations at the end of the day was named the People's Choice winner.
Amy Smith, part of a group of friends from Falls Church that compete as Mother Tucker's Chili, tells us her secret ingredient in the video above. Mother Tucker's Chili is featured at Ireland's Four Provinces in Falls Church on Sundays.
The DC Chili Cookoff, formerly held at RFK Stadium, featured four official categories — red chili, green chili, salsa and homestyle.
Winners will compete in the World Championship Chili Cookoff in October in Palm Springs, Calif.
