Today: DC 'No Pants Subway Ride'

The sixth annual Washington version of the No Pants Subway Ride will take place Sunday afternoon.

Improv Everywhere started the annual event in 2002 in New York and it has since spread to cities around the world.

Sometime after 2 p.m., people of all ages will gather at a park outside of the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station to plot their pantsless commute between Metro Center, Chinatown and L’Enfant Metro stations.

As of Wednesday afternoon, just under 600 people said they were attending and 400 gave "maybe" responses, according to the local event's Facebook page.

The page also reminds the partici-pants(less) the reason behind the No Pants Subway Ride:

"The point of the day is not to 'protest pants'. It is to enjoy the hilarity that ensues when 400 people one day just... forget their pants! Start thinking of your stories now."

The event organizers indicate that local authorities have been made aware of the annual event, but warn participants to heed any warning or request to dress from authorities including, but not limited to "Capitol Police, DC Police, Metro station managers and Metro train conductors."

Other tips on the Facebook page include:

• Try not to wear anything more revealing than PG-13, such as a typical women's bikini bottom or a men’s Speedo.
• When in doubt, wear two pairs of underwear.
• All garments should be clean! We are sitting down on seats that other passengers on metro will use. Please be considerate.

An after-party will take place at Cobalt, 1639 R St. NW in the district.
