Friday: Winter Solstice Brings Shortest Day in 2012

Friday is the first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

The bad news for those who like daylight is we won't have much on Friday.

Dec. 21, 2012 — aside from being the supposed end of the world — is the winter solstice in Earth's Northern Hemisphere, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. The sun will rise at 7:24 a.m. and set at 4:53 p.m.

The good news is days begin getting longer again on Saturday.
