McLean Student Wins Signature Idol Competition in Arlington

Contest was held in Arlington in August.

Alexander Stone, a rising junior at McLean High School, won the 2013 Signature Idol competition this summer at the Signature Theatre in Arlington.

The annual competition, finishing its fourth year, is designed to search out the best singers in the greater Washington area.

Stone sang "In These Skies" from the musical "Ace" as his first entry, according to a news release. Along with Sarah Ann Sillers of Potomac, Md., Stone was selected to participate in the final round, where he sang "Prayer" from "The Scarlet Pimpernel."

Judges were impressed by the richness of Stone's tone and composure for his age, the news release states.

This fall, Stone and junior Lilly Lord will be featured in McLean High School's performance of "Last Five Years."

The school is presenting a specially authorized, reduced version of the production as its entry into the Virginia Theater Association's state competition, according to the news release.

"Last Five Years" will be featured  Oct. 24 to 26.

“I am excited about the possibility of pursuing theater as a career," Stone said in a statement. "I certainly know that the way is not easy. We will see how opportunities present themselves. As they arrive, I will work to be as prepared as possible."
