PHOTOS: Back to School — Excitement Abounds at Oakridge Elementary

Most Arlington Public Schools began the 2012-13 school year Tuesday.

Oakridge Elementary School's energetic principal, Lynne Wright, had about 700 reasons to be excited Tuesday.

Like nearly every other public school in Arlington County, students returned to classes Tuesday from their summer breaks. Wright called it "exciting."

"It's like just the way it's supposed to be. All the anticipation … It's nice. Our own little slice of learning and shared community. It's just nice," Wright said. "We love it!"

Wright has been the Oakridge principal for two years, and served as an assistant principal for three years before that.

Oakridge Elementary School has pre-kindergarten through fifth grade classes. About 700 students are enrolled.

The school bills itself as "an international neighborhood school." Students' families work in embassies, the military, the Pentagon and other diverse places.

Students and staff come from more than 50 countries and speak more than 30 languages.

"It makes for a well-rounded student body," Wright said. "It's quite a gift."
