Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for Arlington, Surrounding Area

The National Weather Service has issued the watch for much of the National Capital Region.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the National Capital Region, including Arlington County, through 10 p.m. Thursday.

A cold front will approach this area and is expected to produce numerous thunderstorms, according to an Arlington County alert.

Thunderstorms will be capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts and large hail, according to the National Weather Service.

Arlington has a 70 percent chance of severe thunderstorms through the late afternoon and an 80 percent chance into the night.

Tonight's low is forecast to be 66 degrees. Friday is expected to be partly sunny with a high of 77.
