NoVA Weather: Possible Wintry Mix Tuesday, Then Heading to the 60s

No chance of snow days this week.

Northern Virginia is riding something of a weather roller coaster this week, starting out sunny with highs only reaching the 30s Monday and heading to the 60s later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The average high for Northern Virginia in February is 47 degrees.

Come Tuesday morning, when most kids are back to school after the President's Day holiday, the area could see some wintry mix in the early hours, according to the National Weather Service.

There's a 90 percent chance of a "wintry mix" Monday night into Tuesday morning, but because temperatures are expected to get up to 49 degrees Tuesday, you shouldn't see much (maybe half an inch), if any accumulation, according to the NWS.

After Tuesday, look for a steady climb in temperatures from about 50 degrees Tuesday heading on up to 64 degrees by Friday.

Here's the breakdown:

  • Tuesday: 80 percent chance of a "wintry mix," from about 9-11 a.m., high of 49 degrees
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high of 55 degrees
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high of 60 degrees
  • Friday: Showers likely (70 percent chance), high of 64 degrees
