Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman has long history in Northern Virginia.

Saturday was reserved for the arts in Shirlington, but one renowned music artist — and Northern Virginia product — was spotted in the village just a few days before.

Dave Grohl, the former Nirvana drummer and frontman of Foo Fighters, was seen with his wife and daughters in Shirlington on Thursday night, according to the Washington Post.

Grohl, who grew up in nearby Springfield, was stopped on the street by a few fans, the Post reported.

Grohl has a long history in Northern Virginia. He went to school in Annandale, played lacrosse with the Braddock Road Youth Club, played with bands in Burke and recorded some pre-"Nevermind" solo work in Arlington, according to this Post summary of his biography.

He also lived in the North Ridge area of Alexandria for a while — in a house where the Foo Fighters recorded much of their third album.
