Movie & ore: The Lucky Few: The Story of the USS Kirk

Fairfax, Virginia. All Fairfax residents are invited to join the Vietnamese American Community performers in a spectacular celebration filled with live traditional Vietnamese music, dances, martial arts demonstration and Vietnamese long dress (Ao Dai) fashion show at Ossian Hall Park, located at 7900 Heritage Drive, Annandale, VA, 22003 on Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM., with informal presentations beginning at 6:30 PM.

After the show (at dark), the movie “ The Lucky Few: Story of the USS Kirk” will be shown as a tribute to those heroic sailors of the USS Kirk who risked their lives to save thousands of Vietnamese refugees in May 1975 in the Pacific Ocean. The captain of the USS Kirk, Paul Jacobs, a native Virginian will be invited to join us on this special occasion.

The first few hundred Vietnamese refugees resettled in our area 37 years ago. To date, thousands of Vietnamese have chosen Fairfax County as their new homeland.  The Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Night is a partnership between the Vietnamese American Community organizations, Fairfax County Park Authority and The Fairfax County Park Foundation to highlight and promote our park summer activities, rally for more public support for parks, and to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. We expect to draw more than 600 people. The event is free to the public. Please bring your own blanket, picnic style chair, food & drink. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
