Ashlawn Elementary Expansion: Community Meeting Monday, Groundbreaking Gallery

The Ashlawn community broke ground on a $14.3 million, 27,000-square-foot expansion earlier this month.

September brought about not only the start of a new school year, but the start of a new school expansion for Ashlawn Elementary students and teachers.

The $14.3 million construction project is the first of five Arlington Public Schools is undertaking in an attempt to accommodate its steadily increasing student population.

School Board Chairwoman Abby Raphael said there was no need to put the shovels away at the Sept. 6 groundbreaking at Ashlawn. They'll be needed again early next year to start the construction of a new elementary school in the Williamsburg community.
