Construction of Copperwood Tavern in Shirlington Back on Track

Owners expect an August or September opening.

Written by Beth Lawton

Construction should be restarting soon at Copperwood Tavern, a Shirlington restaurant set to open where Bistro Bistro once operated.

The restaurant had posted a “coming soon” sign on the window at 4021 Campbell Ave., and the liquor license was pending as of earlier this month.

But last week, work stopped on the self-described “cabin-style watering hole.” Arlington County officials said construction had started at the restaurant before the county had issued all the necessary permits. Those permits are in place now, and the stop-work order has expired.

Copperwood Tavern is “your oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city,” according to its website. “Specializing in seasonal American small plates, this rustic tavern, which seats 188 people, features prime cuts of local game, farm-raised poultry, beef and fresh fish accompanied with hearty, family-style sides.”
