New Animal Hospital Coming to Shirlington Village

Anyone who stops into Shirlington Village for coffee, a bite to eat or to go see a movie (or stop in at Dogma Bakery or Shirlington Dog Park or the Animal Welfare League of Arlington) knows that dogs are a big part of the community.

It's not surprising then to hear of a new animal hospital that is set to open there this fall, according to Shirlington Village Blog Spot.

Shirlington Animal Hospital will likely open in September or October, according to the blog report. The owners of the business are veterinarians Dr. Jim MacLean and Dr. Barry Rosenbluth.

On the new Web site for the new business, that appears to be under construction, the owners describe the facility: "Shirlington Animal Hospital will bring to the community a dedicated, caring and compassionate team of veterinary professionals.  The hospital will be fully equipped to offer complete medical, surgical and dental care for your pets."

Rosenbluth is currently listed as the owner and chief of medical services at Pet Medical Center (PMC) of Springfield. Information about both veterinarians, from the PMC Web site describes their backgrounds: A 1980 graduate of Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, Rosenbluth is native to the area, attending Robinson High School and Virginia Tech., where he received his B.S. degree (Biology) in 1976.

Even with his busy practice, Rosenbluth still finds time for outside activities. He enjoys playing golf, and weight lifting. Most of all, he particularly enjoys spending time with his wife, two children and their pets.

MacLean grew up in Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School and worked in local veterinary hospitals as an assistant (including here at PMC). He attended Old Dominion University and transferred to Virginia Tech as a Biology major. He graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech 1994. After graduation, he worked in a small animal hospital in Waldorf for 12 years, while commuting from Northern Virginia.

He gave up battling the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, worked in Burke for three years and is back at The Pet Medical Center of Springfield. He has additional training in ultrasound and endoscopy and has special interest in internal medicine, cardiology and surgery. He graduated with a masters degree from Georgetown University in business management in the Spring of 2011. He lives locally with his wife, three young children, two tolerant cats and a black lab.
