Rewind: Harris Teeter, Gyms, New Restaurants

The latest business news from Patch in Arlington and beyond.

The Harris Teeter on Route 1 just south of Reagan National Airport has been closed for about 10 months. Residents are getting impatient that Harris Teeter has not reopened yet and are going to the Arlington County board. The grocery store has been closed since May 2012 following an interior flood caused by a sewage backup.

Just up the road, Crystal City is taking an artful approach to liven up its underground shopping district: Art Underground launched this weekend.

Being furloughed is difficult, but some businesses are trying to help local workers facing tough times. Energy Club in Shirlington Village is offering to give free workouts to federal employees and contractors on their furlough days.

Elsewhere in the region:

A Walgreens is eyeing a property in Del Ray on Mount Vernon Avenue. Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille has said he will encourage the company to look elsewhere.

You still have a chance to visit Anthony’s Restaurant in Falls Church. The restaurant was slated to close at the end of March but now will not close until June.

Businesses in the region may get a boost, as they do most years, with the arrival of tax refunds. About 85 percent of Americans expect to get a tax refund and 35 percent plan to spend all or part of it, McLean-based Capital One Bank’s 2013 Taxes and Savings Survey revealed.
