Union Jack's Reopens After Temporary Closure

Arlington County allowed establishment to reopen Thursday morning.

Union Jack's of Ballston has reopened after Arlington County ordered it to be temporarily closed earlier this week.

The restaurant, on the first level of Ballston Common Mall, was closed by Arlington County's Public Health Division on Monday after confirming a report that the establishment did not have hot water.

The lack of hot water caused sanitation concerns, both with cleaning utensils and dishes and with employees being unable to properly wash their hands, county officials said.

That problem has been fixed.

Union Jack's contacted the county Thursday morning, and a health inspector went to confirm hot water was available, Michael Peter with the county's Public Health Division told Patch in an email.

The restaurant was allowed to reopen shortly after 11 a.m.

A restaurant manager declined to comment when contacted by Patch.
