Increasing Chance of Snow or Sleet Tuesday Night and Wednesday

Snow in March in Arlington is rare, but it’s a possibility this week.

In fact, weather forecasters say the chances are increasing that Arlington may see snow or a snowy mix possibly turning to rain from Tuesday night through Wednesday.

The Capital Weather Gang reported late Saturday, “…models now seem to be converging on a storm that will bring a period of precipitation to much of the mid-Atlantic but then head out to sea.”

The Capital Weather Gang forecasters are just slightly leaning toward snow, calling this “the best chance we’ve had all winter of seeing more than an inch.”

The Weather Channel is noting intensifying low pressure in the DC area, but has increased its earlier temperature predictions for Tuesday night and Wednesday. The Weather Channel now forecasts a low temperature of 36 in Arlington Tuesday night and a high temperature of 41 Wednesday.

The National Weather Service gives Arlington a 50 percent chance of snow or rain on Tuesday and a 60 percent of snow or rain on Wednesday. NWS forecasters think the low temperature on Tuesday night will be 35 and the high temperature will be 39 Wednesday.

At this point last year, DC had gotten about 20 percent of the snowfall it would in a normal winter, according to data analyzed by the Capital Weather Gang. There wasn’t much improvement by the end of the season. The 2012 – 2013 season hasn’t been much better for snow fans.

Of course, it’s not spring yet – and we’ve had snow fall well into April in the past, In fact, DC got half an inch of snow on April 28, 1898.
