FBI Says Woman Who Made Jet Threat in Custody

U.S. Airways plane, with 44 passengers, took off from Dayton, Ohio, and landed safely at Reagan National.

Update, 8:25 p.m.: Federal officials are investigating a mid-flight bomb threat made on a commercial jetliner that flew into Reagan National airport this afternoon

US Airways flight 2596 landed safely at Reagan at around 1 p.m. Sunday and was isolated by federal agents after a woman at Dayton International Airport in Ohio—from which the plane took off two hours earlier—said there was a bomb on board.

The FBI, Transportation Security Administration and Federal Aviation Administration cleared the plane and questioned its 44 passengers. Landings at Reagan were halted for 20 minutes.

The woman who made the threat is in custody, said Lindsay Godwin, an FBI spokeswoman. The Dayton Daily News is reporting that the woman was placed into “mental health custody” at a hospital in Ohio.

Original, 4:36 p.m.: CNN is reporting a bomb threat was made at an airport ticket counter in Dayton, Ohio, prompting the search of a plane at Reagan National Airport.

The plane, US Airways flight 2596, landed safely and was being searched. Forty-four passengers and three crew were on board, according to WTOP.

The Washington Post reported all arrivals and departures were halted briefly at the airport. CNN said the person who made the initial report was taken into custody.
