Rewind: School Redistricting, Walgreens and Burning Off Those Beer Calories

The week in review from your Patch sites in Arlington and in other neighborhoods inside the Beltway.

Some Arlington parents are quite concerned about plans to change elementary school boundaries, they told Superintendent Pat Murphy this week. This week’s town hall was at Williamsburg Middle School, which in years ahead will share its campus with a new elementary school. That new school is part of a larger effort to deal with overcrowding.

By next St. Patrick’s Day, you could be burning off those beer calories on a pedal-powered moving pub. Owners of the Arlington Trolley Pub, as it will be called, are hoping to debut their mobile pedal-powered pub next month on the streets of Arlington. (A sober pub employee will be steering and controlling the trolley’s speed.)

In Alexandria, many residents of Del Ray seem to be uncomfortable with the prospect of a Walgreens moving in and displacing a local laudromat and antique stores.

Employees at six stores in Alexandria were charged with selling alcohol to minors in a Thursday night police operation that involved using 19 and 20 year olds as decoys.

Also, the Alexandria City Council is continuing to move forward on allowing hotels and other new development along Alexandria’s waterfront, and residents are continuing to air concerns about losing some of Old Town’s charm.
