Un-Trimming the Tree: How to Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree in Arlington

Arlington County recycles Christmas trees — find out how to get yours collected or where to drop it off.

Starting Jan. 7, Arlington County will collect residents' Christmas trees for recycling.

Trees will be recycled on the same day as regular trash and recycling services. The tree should be put outside with the garbage and recycling by 6 a.m. on collection day.

Make sure trees are free of lights, tinsel, decorations, plastic bags and stands.

Collection will continue through Jan. 18. After that date, trees will not be recycled (turned into mulch), but they will be thrown out with your regular trash.

Don't have regular curbside trash and recycling services? If you live in a condominium, townhome, apartment or other place that doesn't have curbside recycling, you can bring your tree to the Solid Wate Bureau. Call 703-228-6570 to schedule an appointment Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or without an appointment the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
