Photos: Obama Stumps for McAuliffe at Washington-Lee

Get-out-the-vote rally held two days before election.

President Barack Obama joined Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe at a rally Sunday at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington.

The event, two days before Election Day, was designed to energize party members to work the polls, call their friends and neighbors and knock on doors — essentially, to bolster the get-out-the-vote effort.

Obama's popularity doesn't seem to be at risk in Arlington. People clamored to shake his hand before and after his speech.

Obama and McAuliffe blamed the recent government shutdown on a small faction of ideologically driven Republicans, and said McAuliffe's rival Ken Cuccinelli was of that strain.

An estimated 1,600 people attended Sunday's rally, according to media reports distributed by the White House.
