ARLINGTON POLICE, FIRE & SHERIFF 9/11 MEMORIAL 5K

The Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race was born from an idea to start a road race after two Arlington County Police Officers had returned from a similar road race in Buffalo, New York. The first Arlington 9/11 Race was held on September 7, 2002, with 2600 runners, and raised approximately $40,000.

In the past eleven years since its inception, the Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race has had over 25,000 runners cross its finish line and has raised over $400,000 for 9/11-related charities. Past charities of the 9/11 Race include; American Red Cross, Fisher House, Homes for Our Troops, Project Enduring Pride, Pentagon Memorial Fund, NY/NJ Transit Police Fund, Operation Purple, Salvation Army, Wounded Warrior Project, and Segs4Vets.

The race is now an annual event in the DC Metro area, eagerly anticipated by the competitive and recreational runners alike. This annual event occurs seamlessly every year thanks to a core dedicated race committee comprising of Arlington County first responders, lots of enthusiastic volunteers, and the generosity of our various corporate sponsors. Past event sponsors include the Doubletree Hotel, Mr. Days Restaurant, Northrop Grumman, Aramark, Pacers Running Stores, and Red Top Cab of Arlington, just to name a few.
