Ikebe Shakedown

Ikebe Shakedown plays with elements of cinematic soul, Afro-funk, deep disco, and boogaloo in all the right ways. The group has forged its unique sound together over five years, developing a mighty horn section anchored by tight, deep-pocketed grooves. Following 2009’s debut EP, Hard Steppin’, the band released their first full-length LP on Ubiquity Records in 2011. Recorded at Killion Sound in LA and Dunham Studios in Brooklyn, this self-titled album features 14 blistering tracks that Okayplayer called, “an adventurous trip through time” and “one of the best releases of the year.” Ikebe has toured extensively through the US and Canada over the past three years behind both releases and continue to delight listeners in clubs all around the country. After being noticed through their work in Ikebe, several band members have been asked to be backing musicians for Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, The Monophonics, and Streetlight Manifesto. Ikebe’s music has also caught the attention of TV and Ad Agencies, with licenses by HBO’s Eastbound and Down and NBC’s The New Normal, as well as commercials for Mini Cooper and Oscar Meyer.
