Shakespeare's Measure for Measure

Traveling Players Ensemble's Shakespeare in Performance class proudly presents Measure for Measure, Shakespeare's challenging examination of the intersection of virtue and power.

After Duke Vincentio disappears from Vienna, his deputy Angelo imposes harsh new laws on the city. But when the young Claudio falls afoul of the new laws, his virtuous sister, the nun Isabella, has a chance to save him - if she sleeps with Angelo. Will Isabella compromise her virtue to save her brother's life - or will the absent Duke make a return to set things right? Featuring a cast of miscreants, deviants, and a few lost souls clinging to their better natures, this play asks hard questions about the nature of power, corruption, and how far people will go to get what they want.

Tickets $10; FREE ADMISSION to Fairfax County public school students and teachers (with ID).

Traveling Players Ensemble is a professional theatre company dedicated to bringing great theatre to the great outdoors through a thriving summer camp and year-round classes.  Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art.
