The Cubans make a silk-screen poster for almost every movie shown on the island, whether it be from Cuba, the U.S., Russia, France, Japan etc. So expect to see gorgeous posters for foreign films such as Clockwork Orange (this poster is hand-signed by the artist), the Three Musketeers, Silence of the Lambs (signed), Schindler's List and Rebel Without A Cause, as well as for classic Cuban films such as Lucia, Vampires in Havana and Strawberry and Chocolate. Interior decorators, take note: Many of these posters work beautifully well together. By the way, we'll also be offering a few dozen smaller Havana-made movie posters priced from $22 to $35.

Cuban graphics have been recognized worldwide for their beauty.  Copies of many of the posters you'll be seeing at our DC Big Flea show are in the permanent collection of the Academy of Motion Picture and Arts and Sciences' library in Los Angeles, as well as museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert in London.

We will also be offering many modern and vintage propaganda and solidarity posters from Cuba. No matter what you think of the causes these posters support, Cuban propaganda posters are also artistic and scarce collectibles, many of them historical relics of the Cold War. Some were designed to celebrate major figures from the Cuban revolution, while others express Cuba's solidarity with various movements (i.e. anti-Apartheid and U.S. Civil Rights) and governments (Palestine, Nicaragua, Egypt, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, El Salvador, Laos, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Kampuchea, Namibia and Libya. Several posters promote, for example, the close ties that once existed between Cuba and the late anti-U.S.  Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. One ironic poster shows Chavez posing with a U.S.-made baseball bat! Most of these posters are priced from $29 to $129 each.

We hope to see you Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 2-3) at the DC Big Flea show near Dulles airport in Chantilly.
