Tuesday at Shirlington Village: Tree Lighting, Photos with Santa, Carriage Rides and More

Shirlie Lights Up the Village is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Shirlington Village gets into the holiday spirit Tuesday evening with Shirlie Lights Up the Village from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The night, according to villageatshirlington.com, features a holiday tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. by Allison Seymour from Fox 5 DC. Photos with Santa start at 6:45 p.m. inside the UPS Store. Bring a non-perishable food item and ride in a horse-drawn carriage; the donation benefits the Arlington Food Assistance Center.

The holiday event also features live music, face painting and balloon twisting.

The UPS Store will be giving out gift bags to those who visit Santa. Cafe Pizzaiolo will have samples of Italian hot chocolate and fried dough.

The Arlington County Police Department will close two roads from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday to accommodate the event:

  • Campbell Avenue, from Arlington Mill Drive to South Quincy Street
  • South Randolph Street, from Arlington Mill Drive to the alley behind Charlie Chang's Restaurant.

Drivers will not be allowed to exit the Harris Teeter parking garage onto Campbell Avenue, according to police.

Authorities say the closures may result in some congestion and suggest alternate modes of transportation.
