Democratic Attorney General Candidate State Senator Mark Herring unveiled a policy agenda and web ad focused on women's rights, protecting families and ensuring paycheck fairness.

AG Candidate Unveils Policy Agenda And Web Ad Focused On Women’s Rights, Protecting Families And Ensuring Paycheck Fairness

Democratic candidate for Attorney General State Senator Mark Herring (Loudoun & Fairfax) released his newest web ad, the campaign’s second, highlighting Herring’s support for a woman’s right to make her own personal, private decisions regarding her health care on a press call this morning. Herring also released a new policy agenda, which can be found online at www.HerringForAG.com/Women.

Herring criticized his soon-to-be predecessor Ken Cuccinelli for his extreme agenda and said that unlike Cuccinelli, Mark “strongly believes that women's health care and contraception is personal and not something that extremist, right-wing politicians in Richmond should be involved in.”

Joining Herring on the call was Senator Barbara Favola (Arlington), Chair of the Women’s Reproductive Health Caucus. Favola spoke to why she is supporting Mark Herring’s candidacy for Attorney General.

“Having served and fought alongside him in the Senate, I know that Mark is the candidate for Attorney General who has the strength and courage to take on the extreme agenda of Ken Cuccinelli and the Republicans. Virginia’s women can trust Mark Herring because he has always been there, fighting for our right to make personal, private decisions regarding our reproductive health,” Favola said.

Herring’s bold policy agenda focuses on providing equal opportunity for women, respecting women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions, and a plan to keep Virginia’s families secure by, among other things, reducing gun violence.

“I was raised primarily by my mother and my older sister, and as a husband and father, I know that equal opportunities and rights for women and men are critical to the wellbeing and progress of individuals, families and communities. As Attorney General, I will work to repeal the extreme policies of Ken Cuccinelli and work to expand healthcare, protect Virginia families, combat sexual and domestic violence, and create jobs and ensure paycheck fairness,” Herring stated.

Also joining Herring on the call was Gena Boyle, Domestic Violence Victims’ Advocate from Richmond. Boyle spoke to Senator Herring’s work in the General Assembly to keep Virginians and their families safe:

“We need an Attorney General with Mark’s experience to help ensure that Virginia women can live free of sexual or domestic violence. Having worked with him to strengthen penalties for those who commit acts of domestic violence and increase access to services for victims, I trust Mark Herring to be our next Attorney General. The more I talk to women around the state about Mark and his agenda, the more they trust him to be their next Attorney General as well.”

Herring also announced the formation of “Women For Herring” – a group consisting of over one hundred current and former elected officials and women leaders from across the Commonwealth who are supporting Herring’s candidacy for Attorney General.

“I am honored to have the support of so many women leaders from across the Commonwealth who trust me to be an Attorney General who will stand up and fight for the issues that matter to Virginia families. That’s my record, that’s the State Senator I’ve been and that’s the Attorney General I’ll be,” Herring stated.

Herring’s new web ad, policy agenda and list of supporters are available on the campaign’s website: www.HerringForAG.com/Women.
