Arlington Man Robbed During Home Invasion

Attacker seen on camera at nearby convenience store but remains free.

A 50-year-old Arlington man was watching television in bed early Friday when suddenly he found himself being held at knifepoint, the victim of a home invasion.

The man was home for the night, in bed on the top floor of his three-story townhouse in the Glencarlyn neighborhood, and did not hear the assailant enter the residence shortly after 3 a.m., police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

He was awake, watching TV, with the bedroom door closed, when a masked man walked in, stood at the foot of the bed, pulled out a knife and demanded his wallet and cash.

The victim, who was home alone in the unit block of South Montana Avenue, complied and the masked man ran away with the loot, which included the man's ATM card and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim called police. He was not injured.

Investigators canvassed the area and spotted the invader on security camera footage from a nearby convenience store. He went into the store and went straight to an ATM, though police were unsure Friday afternoon if he was able to withdraw any money from the victim's account.

Police aren't sure how the masked man got into the townhouse. They did not find any signs of forced entry, Sternbeck said.

He would not name the convenience store.

This is the first home invasion reported in Arlington County in "a while," Sternbeck said.

The invader was described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a brown mask, long-sleeve shirt and dark pants with paint spots on them during the attack, according to police.

He remains at large.
