You can follow the local law enforcement agency @ArlingtonVaPD.

Just in time for the 38th annual Marine Corps Marathon, the Arlington County Police Department has launched an official Twitter account.

You can follow the local law enforcement agency @ArlingtonVaPD. The account will be maintained and monitored by the department's public affairs office.

The office will respond to people who engage with them on Twitter, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch in an email. However, the account will not be monitored 24/7, he said.

It should not be used to report emergencies, according to a news release.

The Twitter presence "will be a permanent tool for the department to share breaking news, stories, photos, crime tips and events," the release states.

The department posted its first two tweets on Friday — the first announcing its presence on the social network, and the second with a sneak peek of the Marine Corps Marathon finish line.
