Bandits Rob North Arlington Bank; 82-Year-Old Woman Injured

Arlington police are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspects.

An 82-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries during a bank robbery Monday in North Arlington.

At about 11:19 p.m., two men "burst" into the Wells Fargo at 2213 N. Glebe Road, at the Lee Highway intersection, and demanded everyone get down on the ground, according to police.

Fourteen people were in the bank, about half of them customers.

While everyone was on the floor, the two bandits grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and ran out, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

An elderly woman was entering the bank as they were leaving.

"She was right there in the doorway," Sternbeck said. "So in the heat of the moment, they thought the appropriate thing to do was to slam her head into the wall. They threw her aside, into the wall and floor, where she struck her head."

The woman was taken to Virginia Hospital Center with minor injuries.

The robbers were both described as 6-foot-tall men. One was said to have a skinny build and was wearing dark pants, a grey jacket, white gloves and a dark beanie at the time. The other was wearing blue jeans and a dark jacket.

Police distributed four video stills from the bank's surveillance cameras Monday afternoon.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts or identity of these two men to contact Detective Gary Skeens at 703-228-4166, gskeens@arlingtonva.us or investigations@arlingtonva.us.
