Laundromat Employee Stabbed with Screwdriver on Columbia Pike

Spokesman: Suspect asked for change, returned to assault man.

An employee of a Laundromat on Columbia Pike was stabbed in the arm with a screwdriver after refusing to give change to a stranger, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

At about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, a man entered the Laundromat in the 4800 block of the Pike, near the Four Mile Run Drive intersection, and asked an employee for some change.

The employee declined to give him any, saying it was against store policy, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The man left, but returned soon afterward and assaulted the employee in front of the store, using a screwdriver for part of the attack, Sternbeck said. The attacker then ran away.

The employee suffered several puncture wounds in his left arm but refused transport to a nearby hospital, Sternbeck said.
