Arlington police say a 48-year-old man attacked an officer this week in the parking lot area across from the county police department and courthouse.

At about 7 a.m. Wednesday, an officer attempted to arrest David Holston, of no fixed address, for disorderly conduct in the 1400 block of North Courthouse Road, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

"He was shouting profanity at citizens as they passed by and chasing after people," Sternbeck said.

When an officer attempted to apprehend him, police say Holston struck the officer with his fist.

Holston was charged with assaulting an officer and disorderly conduct. He was held with no bond, according to the Arlington County Sheriff's Office.

The officer was not injured.

Why was he arrested and not taken to a mental institution? If he was doing as they state, that is a sign of mental illness. He does not belong in jail, he needs help.
