Maryland Woman Reports Being Raped in Crystal City Bar/Restaurant

Police: Investigation is ongoing

A 27-year-old District Heights, Md., woman reported being raped by a known suspect early Friday morning in a Crystal City bar/restaurant, according to information police released this week.

The alleged attack happened between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of South 23rd Street.

The man and woman were the only two people in the establishment at the time, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The business had closed for the night, though Sternbeck would not say if one or both of the people involved worked there. He described the two as "acquaintances."

Alcohol is a factor in the incident, Sternbeck said.

The woman reported being raped shortly after she said it happened. She was examined at a nearby hospital.

Police have not arrested or charged anyone in this incident.

"Evidence has to be collected, interviews have to be done, the evidence has to be tested," Sternbeck said. "It's a several part process and we're going to do our due diligence."
