Police Arrest Mercedes-Driving Arlington Man for Alleged Sex Assault at Bailey's Crossroads

Police say the suspect drove a silver Mercedes and assaulted a woman in the car after picking her up in a parking lot in Bailey's Crossroads.

Police arrested Sloan Wilson Rappoport, 44, Military Road, Arlington on Tuesday on sex assault charges that took place in Bailey's Crossroads. LinkedIn lists Rappoport as vice president of Downey McGrath Group. The profile also lists Rappoport past work experience as:

  • Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary at U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Counsel at U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
  • Counsel to Committee on Veterans' Affairs at U.S. House of Representatives

Following up on a series of tips, detectives identified the suspect, contacted Rappoport and he met with police at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center at around 6 p.m. Police charged him with abduction, sexual battery and obscene display.

The incident took place on Friday, Jan. 31, around 6 p.m. A 28-year-old woman was shopping in the Ross store in the 5800 block of Crossroads Center Way when she was approached by a man who spoke to her in Spanish.

Police described his behavior as "very friendly" with the 28-year-old woman. As she was leaving the store, the man pulled up in his silver-colored Mercedes, asked her to get in and she did. He locked the doors, drove to a location nearby and sexually assaulted her. The victim escaped and fled.

After the incident, the suspect was described as a white male wearing a dark jacket and white shirt. He wore glasses and had black hair. His demeanor was outgoing and friendly. Police say there may be other people who have been approached by this man.
