Alexandria Man Killed in Early Morning Crash Near Key Bridge

Update (7:19 p.m.): A 24-year-old Alexandria man was killed early Friday in a car crash near the Key Bridge, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Police say Aman Singh Lail, 24, of Baltimore, was heading east in a Jeep Wrangler on Lee Highway shortly after 2 a.m. Friday when he struck the side of a Chrysler Crossfire sedan.

Saqlain Chowdhury, 24, of Alexandria, was driving the sedan. He was taken by paramedics with the Arlington County Fire Department to George Washington University Hospital, where he died, according to a news release.

Lail has been charged with Driving Under the Influence — Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter, according to police.

He is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Center.

Original article (11:46 a.m.): A 24-year-old man died early Friday in a car crash near the Key Bridge in Rosslyn, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

A passerby called police at 2:09 a.m. about the wreck, which happened at the intersection of Lee Highway and Fort Meyer Drive, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

A Jeep Wrangler was heading east on Lee Highway and struck the side of a sedan in a so-called "T-bone" collision, Sternbeck said.

The 24-year-old man who died was in the sedan, though investigators aren't yet sure whether he was the driver or a passenger.

The driver of the Jeep, who suffered minor injuries, remained at the scene until police arrived, Sternbeck said. At least one other person was involved, though Sternbeck was not sure which vehicle that person was in.

No charges had been filed as of late Friday morning.

Roads had been cleared of snow and ice in the area of the collision, Sternbeck said.

The department's Critical Accident Team was at the site of the crash for about five hours.

Further details, such as which driver was at fault, were not yet available Friday morning, though Sternbeck expected the investigation to be wrapped up soon.

Police will release the name of the man who was killed after his family has been notified, Sternbeck said.
