Police: South Arlington Man Shot in Abdomen Outside Home Over Weekend

No arrests have been made.

A 32-year-old Arlington man was shot in the abdomen outside of his residence in the Nauck community this weekend, according to information police released Monday.

The victim had been sitting outside of his home with at least one friend in the 2400 block of South Oxford Street on Friday when, at about 9:15 p.m., two men in their 20s approached.

One of them produced a handgun, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch. A single shot was fired, hitting the victim in the abdomen.

After firing, the attackers got into a car that was in close proximity and were driven away by third individual, Sternbeck said.

"Right now, we're not going to be releasing a lot of specifics, due to it being an ongoing investigation," Sternbeck said.

The victim's friend immediately ran away when the shot was fired, he said. Police are unaware of any other witnesses, but several 911 calls were received by neighbors who heard the shot.

Police do not know the attackers' intention or if anything was taken during the altercation, Sternbeck said.

The victim remains in Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He and his friend are cooperating with investigators, Sternbeck said.
